Dressing for a music festival is a bigger deal than you may think. Your outfits can make or break your entire festival experience. Staying on trend, comfortable, and functional is vital. With that said, let me take you through some tips to consider when planning your next festival outfits by building 3 looks.
Pick A Theme
Putting together multiple outfits for a rave can be overwhelming. But what makes it a lot easier is if you start by picking a theme. What do you think is cool? What do you like? I think a great theme is space. What is great about space is that it’s a broad theme. It can range from the galaxy, to astronauts, aliens, UFOs, stars, and planets.
The next step is to figure out an appropriate color scheme so that your outfits don’t come across as scattered, random, or unfinished. With that said, when I think of colors that have to do with space, I think of:
- Green (Aliens)
Because these outfits are for a rave and we want to make sure that there are enough pops of color, it would be great to implement tie-dye! Tie-dye is a blank canvas because it can be matched with any color on the spectrum, so it will be the perfect way to balance all of the neutrals.
Let’s start off this first look strong with a bold, tie-dye t-shirt! What I love about this shirt is that not only does it stand-out, but it also features a witty text that goes along with the space theme, eluding to extraterrestrials by stating, “Humans Aren’t Real”. This shirt is also unique due to its “trippy” text lay-out.
Because the t-shirt is such a major statement, it is important to balance it with a simple, black pair of shorts. These shorts are comfortable and stretchy, as well as functional with their pockets.
Still keeping it pretty simple, these neutral black and grey knit sneakers will keep your feet happy all day and all night. Not only will you feel like you’re walking on a cloud, but they also have blue LED soles! Not sure it can get better than that.
Accessorizing is key in completing outfits! As a result, pairing a black hat with a blue LED rim will be perfect! It is still simple so that the tie-dye shirt can steal the show, but it also plays a role in topping off the look. Did you notice that it matches the shoes too?! The outfit will come full circle with parallels from head to toe.
Now, it’s time to break up all of this black. I know we want to keep the tie-dye shirt as the center focus, but we can still have some more fun. With that said, let’s throw in another touch of tie-dye with a pair of socks! This will help to round out the whole look in a simple way.
Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about a backpack! You need something to hold all of your essentials of course. This is a black hydration backpack with blue trim, which matches the blue LEDs on the hat and on the shoes. Not only can you hold items in your backpack, but you can also stay hydrated from it! You can secure your favorite drink within the backpack, and completely avoid thirst during the festival.
Going along with the space theme, I have picked out a simple black t-shirt with a white UFO graphic that is releasing speakers onto the ground, with the clever phrase: “Let’s Drop The Bass Here”.
To keep with the space theme and to add a splash of color, these black shorts with a multi-colored astronaut and planets add dimension to this look.
This outfit needs an unexpected moment, which these silver textured sneakers provide. In addition, this metallic color can act as a symbol of a UFO.
LEDs are always a fun touch, so how about adding a light-up face mask? It will make you glow all night, and add an overall statement to the look.
Why stop there? Let’s add an LED bracelet too. It will change colors throughout the night, picking up all of the vibrancy from the shorts.
Since this particular look is more revolved around aliens, this whimsical green fanny pack draws in the eye, and breaks up the primarily black t-shirt and shorts. It also ties in the green that is featured on the shorts.
It is time to end the festival with a bang! This artistic tank top showcases the space theme with a galaxy print and a paint can dripping white pigment asymmetrically across the bottom half of the shirt.
I really wanted it to look like the white paint continued down the look, which gave me the idea to pair the tank top with white reflective pants. Not only are they a neutral, but they are also a statement at the same time! They will reflect when a flash or crazy lights hit it.
These LED shoes are too good not to bring back. Plus, we need a final LED element to this look to keep consistent with the rest! The black sneaker breaks up all of the white, and the light-up sole adds a classic rave element to the look.
This neon green face/neck wrap brings a much needed pop of color to this black and white outfit. But it will also help prevent you from a wind-chill or a desert storm at night.
To parallel the neon green color of the face/neck wrap, this black fanny pack with neon green writing ultimately completes this look. The text on the fanny pack appropriately states, “PARTY”.
Let’s finish off this look with a pair of psychedelic glasses. With black frames and multi-colored light lasers, it will give depth to this look by broadening its color scheme, paying homage to the tie-dye and LEDs in the previous looks.
Guys, remember not to be afraid of colors and patterns, but don’t over-do it. If you keep within a theme and a color palette, both girls and guys will be impressed with your cohesiveness.
